We are delighted to present a show of Fred Cuming's new works.

Fred Cuming

Fred has devoted his life to expressing the fleeting impressions of his surroundings, often painting the south coast of England in Devon and Cornwall, but more often Kent and Sussex where he lives. This show brings together his regular theme of these coastlines as well as international scenes of Crete and Venice. He also explores slightly more unusual subjects such as garden scenes and even birds of prey. These subjects are painted loosely with a restricted and light palette creating a dreamy effect. The soft tones and brush strokes used by Fred capture a unique moment in time and demonstrate an unquestionably incredible talent.

Born in London in 1930, Fred Cuming is among Britain’s most  outstanding, respected and poetic landscape painters. Fred was educated at Sidcup school of Art and Royal College of Art, London and has won numerous scholarships and prizes. He is a member of the New English Art, an Associate of the Royal College of Art and he became a full Royal Academician in 1974. In 2001, he was  given the honour of being the featured artist in the Royal  Academy’s Summer Exhibition, with an entire gallery dedicated to his work. In 2004, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Arts at the University of Kent. Cuming had his first one-man show in 1978 at the Thackeray Gallery, London, and since then he has had an impressive list of exhibitions and accolades, not only in England but also internationally.
